Okay so here is the deal: As of right now I'm planning on bringing this stream back to life. However it is going to be totally different than it was before.
I can already hear you asking, "What changed in regards to the general Streaming situation?" Nothing. But after taking a year off I realized that I still really want a way to share my love for gaming with others. So with that in mind I came up with a way to operate this stream that would allow me to avoid most of the downsides I enumerated in my previous post in addition to allowing me to make it a more fulfilling experience for myself.
The stream will be bare bones basic bitch style. No pop-ups, no embedded chat, no chat bot, no donations, no graphics, no webcam stream. Just the game, my voice and you guys in chat. That's it. Oh and this website. Because I put a decent amount of work into this thing and I like the domain name, so yeah I'll involve it as well.
All streaming operations and games will be run on low-powered devices such as Single Board Computers. I believe in doing more with less and I want to do my part to conserve resources, hence this choice. It's a choice that I've made in numerous other parts of my life but that I'm happy to say I can make work with a stream. As of right now the games with be played on an ODroid N2 running EmuELEC and the video will be encoded on a Raspberry Pi 4 running Raspbian. In addition to that, we'll be using a low powered external USB3 HDMI Capture Card. It doesn't get much more basic than that.
There is no set schedule. When I feel like streaming, it'll likely happen on Tuesday afternoons (EST). Otherwise it won't. This stream is for my entertainment and edification, not yours. #SorryNotSorry
This is still a work in progress. I don't even have the HDMI Capture Card yet. But once I get that and work out a few other loose ends, my hope is that I will be "back". Hope you enjoy Retro Games because that's pretty much what we'll be playing exclusively ;)
